ODM21: From Political Leadership to Institutional Legacy.

The greatest tribute to a generational leader is not an institution that remembers them, but one that continues to serve the people long after them.

ODM21 is more than a political podcast series. It is an exploration of how the achievements of generational leaders can be transformed into enduring institutions.

History has shown us that extraordinary individuals can move communities, societies and nations towards greater justice, freedom, dignity and prosperity. Through conviction, sacrifice and the power to mobilize, they achieve milestones that once seemed beyond reach.

Yet there is a fundamental challenge: the achievements of an individual often remain vulnerable to the limits of that individual’s lifetime, influence and strength.

The greater task, therefore, is not simply to celebrate what a leader accomplished, but to examine how the principles, values and collective achievements they inspired can be faithfully embedded in the structures of governance, leadership and institutional culture.

Because when principles become institutions, progress no longer depends solely on the presence of the person who first championed them.

Institutions can preserve hard-won gains, develop new generations of leadership, uphold accountability and provide the continuity necessary for societies to advance from one stage of development to the next.

This is the central mission of ODM21: to examine the transition from individual legacy to institutional permanence.

Through conversations about leadership, democracy, governance, succession and generational responsibility, the series explores what it would take for the Orange Democratic Movement to translate its founding ideals and political milestones into a durable institutional framework.

The ambition is both clear and far-reaching:

To contribute to the vision of making the Orange Democratic Movement the most enduring political institution in Africa.

Not merely through its continued existence, but through its capacity to preserve principles, renew leadership, strengthen democratic governance and remain relevant across generations.

Ultimately, ODM21 asks a question that reaches far beyond one political party:

How do we ensure that the progress achieved by extraordinary individuals becomes the permanent inheritance of generations yet to come?

Because the true measure of a generational leader’s legacy may not be how long their influence survives, but how far society continues to advance when they are no longer there to lead it.

BABA: REMEMBERING THE SPIRIT

Behind the lens, in the final 60 days.

During the final 60 days before Kenya’s 2022 presidential election, I was among the video producers capturing candid moments of Raila Odinga’s campaign. This film brings together selected highlights of that work.
